During my capstone internship with Riverview Health Physicians, I gained hands-on experience in healthcare operations and provider relations within a Hamilton County's healthcare system. Throughout my internship, I worked on a variety of projects that supported organizational efficiency and provider engagement, including developing standard work documents, organizing provider quality metrics, and contributing to process improvements across departments.
I also had the opportunity to complete MGMA training modules, further strengthening my understanding of medical practice operations and industry standards.
Much of my work wasn't directly on projects, but focused on connecting with leaders across the organization, gaining insight into areas such as marketing, human resources, and executive leadership. These experiences allowed me to better understand how different departments collaborate to support both providers and patients.
Through this internship, I developed strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills while gaining valuable exposure to provider recruitment and relations.
This experience played a significant role in shaping my career goals, as it confirmed my interest in healthcare operations and provider recruitment. It contributed to my long-term success by strengthening my ability to work in a professional healthcare setting, build meaningful connections, and support initiatives that improve both provider and patient experiences.
Primary Responsibilities and Projects
During my internship with Riverview Health Physicians, I was actively involved in the provider recruitment and onboarding process. I had the opportunity to sit in on physician and Advanced Practice Provider (APP) phone screenings, gaining insight into candidate evaluation and recruitment strategies. I also conducted nurse reference calls, during which I developed my professional communication skills by gathering and documenting relevant feedback.
I also participated in candidate tours and interviews, allowing me to observe how organizations assess both clinical qualifications and cultural fit. I also played a role in onboarding efforts by facilitating the creation of welcome boxes for newly contracted providers, helping ensure a positive, organized introduction to the organization.
These experiences gave me hands-on exposure to the full recruitment lifecycle and strengthened my ability to communicate professionally, build relationships, and contribute to a welcoming and supportive provider experience.
